Why is indoor signal weak in parts of Ahmedabad?
West Ahmedabad has grown rapidly upwards: SG Highway, Prahlad Nagar, Bodakdev, Thaltej, South Bopal, Shela and Gota are full of high-rise schemes and commercial towers, most with basement parking. East of the Sabarmati, the walled city’s pols — Khadia, Kalupur, Raipur and around — have narrow lanes and old houses with thick walls. And the GIDC industrial estates at Vatva, Naroda and Odhav, plus the Sanand belt, are full of metal-roofed units.
So the cause of weak signal indoors changes with the neighbourhood — but the fix always starts with the usable signal available on the roof or balcony.
Common signal problems we see in Ahmedabad
New high-rises and their basements
In SG Highway, Science City Road, Shela and South Bopal schemes, residents often find basements dead and upper-floor calls crackling from interference between towers. Basements need an antenna above ground and a longer cable run; high floors benefit from a directional antenna. See our basement booster guide.
Pol houses in the old city
Old houses in the pols are built close together with thick walls and inner courtyards. The terrace usually gets signal, but the rooms below don’t. A terrace antenna with a cable down to a central indoor antenna is typically enough.
Commercial basements and offices
Shops and offices in basement or inner units of complexes on CG Road, Ashram Road and Navrangpura lose customer calls and UPI confirmations. A compact kit with a ceiling dome, or a higher-coverage model for larger floors, fixes this — see the office booster guide.
GIDC units and warehouses
Metal sheds in Vatva, Naroda, Odhav and Sanand block signal on the shop floor. A high-gain model with panel antennas along the work areas keeps supervisors and dispatch reachable.
Bungalows in Bodakdev, Thaltej and Satellite
Larger bungalows with two or three floors need one booster plus a splitter and an indoor antenna per floor — see network booster for home.
Example: a showroom on the lower-ground floor of a CG Road complex
Customers walk in, can’t complete a UPI payment and step back out to the street to find signal. The complex terrace has good signal, so the outdoor antenna goes there (with the association’s approval), low-loss cable runs down the service duct, and the booster sits in the showroom’s back office. One or two ceiling dome antennas cover a typical showroom of 1,500–3,000 sq.ft. For a long duct run, LMR-400 cable keeps the loss down. If most customers and staff are on one operator, a model carrying that operator’s key band is enough; for mixed traffic, a model with 1800 MHz — a band Jio, Airtel and Vi all use — serves the most people.
A note on Ahmedabad’s summer heat
Terrace temperatures in May and June can be extreme. Only the antenna should go outside; keep the booster indoors in a shaded, ventilated spot and away from direct sunlight through windows. Use UV-resistant cable ties for the outdoor cable run.
